Brecon Beacons National Park
Good for Shopping
The Brecon Beacons National Park offers some of the most beautiful views in Wales. It's a spectacular landscape, with high rolling hills that fall off suddenly into near-vertical drops carved by glaciers tens of thousands of years ago.
Understandably, the Brecon Beacons contains dozens of excellent walks for people of all fitness levels. One of the most popular is the route to the summit of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. There is a good path starting from just off the A470, but do be aware that weather conditions can change quickly in any mountain area. The Beacons are no exception.
If you prefer something a little less strenuous, there are dozens of shorter walks taking in ridges, waterfalls, industrial remains, and even stone-age monuments, but on the other hand, sometimes a we all need a good challenge. The Beacons Way footpath runs all the way along the mountain range and takes in some of the highest peaks along the way. Walkers usually take between a week and ten days to complete it.
Cyclists can go all the way from Brecon town to Cardiff on the Taff Trail. In summer a special Sunday bus service takes both people and bikes from Cardiff, Swansea, and other major South Wales centres and drops them off high up in the gorgeous Brecon Beacons.
