Gower Heritage Centre
Good for Museums & Art Galleries
The Gower Heritage Centre is nestled in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK. In fact, the Gower Peninsula was one of the very first places in Britain to be recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has quiet, sandy beaches, towering sea-cliffs, and picturesque meadows too.
But it's not just about beautiful beaches and pleasant scenery. In the Gower, history is never all that far away. It's still possible to see the traces of ancient settlements and old customs there. The oldest human burial ever discovered in Western Europe once lay in a cave on the sea cliffs, and there is abundant evidence that people have thrived on the peninsula for tens of thousands of years, just as they continue to do today.
The Gower Heritage Centre itself is a long-established hub for traditional crafts and trades. There's a 12th Century mill, a blacksmith, and visitors can also get up close to the farm animals that have been part of life on the Gower for hundreds of years. These days there is also a soft-play area for little kids and an adventure playground for bigger ones. The whole family can enjoy a day here just as much as a visit to the beach- or more, if it's raining!
