Welcome to the official guide to Southern Wales Attractions

Fun In The Sun

It’s time to head out doors and in to the sunshine to make the most of this fine summer. But as the temperature rises and the heat ramps up it can be necessary to try and cool off and seek out some cooling waterside activities. With stunning beaches and lovely rivers South Wales has no lack of opportunities for you to cool off and enjoy a great summer! Here are some water based ideas to help you plan your cool summer of fun! as you travel around South Wales.

While in the Capital, Cardiff Tourism Connections head to Cardiff bay and enjoy the breeze off the ocean as you wonder around this lively and vibrate redeveloped bay area with its myriad of restaurants and shops. Whilst down the bay you why not visit the Norwegian Church Arts Centre where Roald Dahl was christened and now housing exhibitions and concerts.

From Cardiff bay you can take a day trip to Flat Holm Island where you can enjoy a mix of nature and culture! On this beautiful Island just off the coast, nestled in the Bristol Cannel, this trip is one of South Wales great summer treats.

Heading out of Cardiff could lead you to Cosmeston lakes Country Park where you can explore 110 hectares of beautiful countryside meadows, lakes, woodland and wetland.

Heading around the coast will lead you to the lovely beaches of the Vale of Glamorgan and on to the stunning Gower Peninsula where after a cooling swim? You can stop off at the Gower Heritage Centre and explore the historic 800 year old water powered corn mill, with its craft workshops; large tearooms; children's puppet theatre; pottery; and small animal farm.

Swansea too has its own redeveloped maritime quarter and with its landmark Natinol Water Front Museum telling Wales’s story of industry and innovation it is well worth a visit.

Heading inland can lead you to many rivers and streams for a cool off, The Brecon Beacons National Park has a myriad of Rivers for a dip in and offers the opportunities for canoeing and gorge walking amongst many other activities.

If the sun is really beating down then head to Dan-yr-Ogof National Show caves Centre and cool off underground deep into the subterranean world!

The Stunning Wye Valley and Vale of Usk offer great canoeing and kayaking opportunities on both the river Usk and the river Wye. If you choose to float down the river Wye then break up your trip with a stop off for a visit to Tintern Abbey and Abby Mill Craft Centre to make it a truly memorable day out.
