Dyffryn Gardens and Arboretum

Good for Groups

Dyffryn Gardens is a strong contender for the best open garden in Wales, if not one of the very best in the whole of the UK. It's grade 1 registered and the grounds cover more than 50 acres. Visitors come from across Wales, from other parts of the UK, and from even further afield.

A walk through Dyffryn might take in a formal Edwardian lawn with neatly kept shrubbery, open parkland, and a collection of trees from all over the world. It is superbly laid out and kept with pride and expertise. Even those who rarely enjoy visiting gardens will be impressed by the scale and grandeur, and by the simple beauty of a large and expansive space so well cared for. Whether you are a committed lover of gardens and gardnening or not, this is one South Wales attraction that will not disappoint.

The arboretum at Dyffryn Gardens is outstanding. While it can be visited in any season, catching the autumn leaf changes is highly recommended. Visiting an arboretum is a great way to get ideas for your own garden (even if you don't have as much space as those who laid out the magnificant gardens around Dyffryn), or you can just wander and enjoy seeing species you might never have encountered before. It's only a few miles from the centre of Cardiff so there's no excuse for missing out!
