Abergavenny Museum & Castle

Good for Free Admission

Abergavenny Museum nestles into the best spot possible- the grounds of Abergavenny Castle. It's a place that has seen plenty of action over the centuries.

Abergavenny has long been the biggest market town in this area. It was a major stronghold for invading Norman forces, but long before they arrived, the Romans came and left their stamp on the town. Earlier still, Bronze and Iron age people lived on the site.

Abergavenny Castle is just one part of the rich history of this part of South Wales, but it's definitely the best place to explore the progression of a typical Brecon Beacons settlement from prehistory through to the middle ages and on to modern times.
