COMPANY
When this musical comedy first burst on to the Broadway stage in 1970 it was ground breaking and changed the face of musical theatre for decades to come. This remarkably insightful musical was a breath of fresh air and swept the board at the Tonys with its intricate melodies and fantastically funny libretto and it is still as relevant and engaging as it was back then.
Company explores the games, the angst, the loneliness and the fun of relationships. Set around the complicated life of Robert, who is celebrating his thirty-fifth birthday, it follows his struggle to reconcile his bachelorhood whilst under pressure from his married friends, who all have a potential wife for him, as well as his three very different girlfriends.
Stephen Sondheim made his debut as the lyricist on West Side Story, followed by Gypsy and then made his composing debut with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He is widely regarded as one of the most unique talents Broadway has ever produced and, since Company has been successful with Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods and A Little Night Music. So even if you are not familiar with this musical, you can rest assured that very few shows come with such a good pedigree as Company.
Concept Players? last production Anything Goes was a riot and played to packed houses so make sure that you book early to avoid disappointment. Concept?s production values are well known and direction this year comes from the sa
