Mona
Mona: An animation by Sean Harris and communities on Anglesey
In seeking the truth, which should we trust - the written word or the archaeological object?
Mona is a mesmerising animation that brings to life artefacts from Llyn Cerrig Bach and the vivid accounts of Tacitus, a Roman historian, of the first contact between Druids and Romans on Anglesey.
Following its showing in Llangefni, Mona travels to the Origins: In Search of Early Wales gallery at National Museum Cardiff and meets many of the artefacts brought back to life in the animation.
Mona is a creative response that evokes the spirit and emotion of a charged moment in time - one that was to have consequences reaching far beyond the waters of the Menai Strait ? and encourages the viewer to consider the nature of the ?truths? and ?stories? we tell about the past.
Tacitus gives us a vivid account of the Roman destruction of the druidic system on Anglesey in AD60, but from the people who confronted the Romans, we have nothing.
Nothing on paper that is, but an extraordinary collection of objects found on the island at Llyn Cerrig Bach tells us much about this rich culture.

Urdd.com - An exhibition in Oriel 1
Have you ever been a member of the Urdd?
You might have sung in an Eisteddfod, stayed in one of the Urdd?s holiday camps or taken part in a football or netball tournament.
50,000 members make it one of the largest youth movements in Europe.
To celebrate the visit of the Urdd National Eisteddfod to Cardiff in 2009 - this festival is 80 years old this year - you can find out more about the history of the Urdd in a special exhibition at St Fagans.
Three members of the Urdd will be helping us with our exhibition, and their memories will enable us to tell a unique story that starts with the birth of the movement in 1922, through to the current day.
We?ll be remembering the Comradeship (you can hear stories of children leaving home for the first time and making friends for life), the Competing ("our boy should have been given first prize!"), and we?ll be remembering the Collecting (I didn?t go anywhere without my Mr. Urdd badge).
So come to St Fagans this spring to share your memories of the Urdd with us.

Curatorial Contrasts - exhibition
Four established but very different artists, David Ferry, Mark Halliday, Louise Short and Emrys Williams will each be invited to nominate two or three young or emerging artists to exhibit together in one show.
All art stems from other art including art made in the past as well as art made in your own time and place. This show provides an opportunity for more established artists to reveal (through their nominations), something of their particular interests and more directly, their respect for other makers of a younger generation. These artists nominated might be working in a similar medium, or involved with shared ideas about art or simply making art that has authenticity.
For emerging artists, looking at the preceding generation can be both stimulating and daunting as they might represent both possible pathways and closed doors. Both perceptions might be correct and both can be positive.
Similarly, for established artists, looking over their shoulder at younger artists coming through can be challenging, making one both more assured and certain about the specifics of your practice and also more self-critical. Hopefully this show will demonstrate some aspects of this symbiotic relationship.

Alan Goulbourne's Commission for Chapter Hoarding
Chapter and the South Wales Decorative & Fine Arts Society (SWDFAS) are delighted to announce that recent graduate Alan Goulbourne has successfully completed his commission for Chapter?s hoarding which is on display for the duration of Chapter?s redevelopment until mid 2009.
The artist had been selected from a strong group of short-listed candidates. Recent graduates and current MA students from South Wales colleges were invited to apply for the commission, an opportunity made possible by Chapter and the South Wales Decorative & Fine Arts Society (SWDFAS). This commission forms a continuation of the SWDFAS and Chapter collaboration which in the past has seen ?Study and Stay? residencies, offering graduate artists from South Wales colleges the opportunity to undertake six-month residencies at Chapter.
Alan Goulbourne has managed to transform the hoarding into an extraordinary piece of art. He has worked with wood to create a multi-layered three-dimensional sculptural landscape on the hoarding. The finished work is ?an explosive piece with variable forms that ebb and flow across the boards; a piece that conveys rebirth; that is full of energy and inspires growth and movement?.
The work has already won many admirers, among them acclaimed dancer and choreographer Sioned Huws who saw Alan work on the hoarding while she was rehearsing for her latest ?Aomori Project? at Chapter and invited him to create a similar wooden relief live during her performances at Chapter. Alan

An Evening with Neil Sedaka
The history of Rock N? Roll would be incomplete without the innumerable contributions of Neil Sedaka. For over fifty years, Neil has written, performed, produced, and inspired countless songs, and his canon of compositions will continue to stand the test of time.
Neil catapulted into stardom after Connie Francis recorded his "Stupid Cupid."
Sedaka was able to sign a contract with RCA as a writer and performer of his own material. Neil soon recorded chart toppers The Diary, Oh! Carol, Stairway to Heaven, Calendar Girl, Little Devil, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, Next Door To An Angel, and Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, songs that have become a part of peoples' lives and can instantly take listeners back to special moments. His music became distinguished for a unique recording style involving multi-tracking his own voice to achieve a rich sound. This was merely the first act in a career that has not ceased to evolve and entertain.

The Thorn Birds
After the success of Amazing Grace in Autumn 2006, The Wales Theatre Company returns to the Centre with a brand new musical version of The Thorn Birds. Colleen McCullough?s pulsating saga of a priest torn apart by the confl icting passions of his love for a young girl and a life dedicated to the Church, has been turned into a sensational musical that confronts dark passions and a scandalous family legacy of forbidden love. Npower Ashes 1st Test Series
2009 will be an historic year for Welsh cricket as Glamorgan Cricket plays hosts to the 1st npower Ashes Test match between England and Australia at Cardiff, starting on Wednesday, July 8th. The Brit Oval, Edgbaston, Headingley and Lord's are the other venues.
The Ashes is a Test cricket series, played between England and Australia. It is one of international cricket's most celebrated rivalries and dates back to 1882. It is currently played biennially, alternately in England and Australia. However, since cricket is a summer game, the venues being in opposite hemispheres means the break between series alternates between 18 and 30 months. A series of "The Ashes" now comprises five Test matches, two innings per match, under the regular rules for international Test-match cricket. If a series is drawn then the country holding the Ashes retains them.
The series is named after a satirical obituary published in an English newspaper, The Sporting Times, in 1882 after the match at The Oval in which Australia beat England on an English ground for the first time. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media then dubbed the next English tour to Australia (1882?83) as the quest to regain The Ashes.
