Parc Bryn Bach
Good for Accommodation
Parc Bryn Bach (or Bryn Bach Park if you prefer the English version) is a hub for outdoor activities from windsurfing to bike riding to model boat sailing to golf.
340 acres of woodland surround Bryn Bach Park itself, and you don't need to be a committed outdoor enthusiast to get involved. The 9 hole golf course is open to the public and you can also hire bikes on site. Outdoor adventure providers use the park (or parc) as a base for orienteering and watersports courses, so if you need a little help getting the kids off the couch on the weekend, just contact the instructors at Bryn Bach- there is almost always something going on.
Of course, you can also enjoy the beautiful lakes and woods in a gentler way. There is a family picnic area and playground anyone can use. The lakes are a very popular fishing spot too.
While Parc Bryn Bach is most popular on sunny days when everyone wants to get out and about, it's also a great place to visit during the winter. The crowds are gone, but in snowy weather the lake is absolutely beautiful. The edges often freeze over for quite some distance, althrough trying to walk on the ice is never recommended!
The nearby village of Tredegar is also worth including in your visit. It's not just the birthplace of Ni Bevan, but the place where the concept of a modern, universal, and free healthcare system first came to prominence. There is an interesting History Trail and a number of landmarks in the area, from a memorial to Welsh participants in the Spanish Civil war to the town clock tower.
